For the first few months of this year I was in Siping, China, teaching English. For Lunar New Year (which in 1983 fell on Sunday, February 13), I took a vacation, traveling across China to Hong Kong. My passport shows me entering Hong Kong Saturday, February 5, then leaving on Monday, February 21.
At the end of July I returned to England and lived with my parents in Northampton until November. Then I went back to contract systems work and took lodgings in London.
- Birthdays: My father was 84 in July, my mother 71 in March, my brother Noel was 53 in January, my sister Judith 40 in September. Judith's daughter Tessa was 16 in September; Judith's son Marcus was 6 in January. I was 38 in June.
- Hatched, matched, detached, dispatched: Uncle Harold's wife died January 1. Uncle Bill, my mother's oldest brother, died May 27, aged 87 or 88.
