My dear Son,
received your letters, duly commented on etc,but we really do look forward to your letters & to know you
are fit & well. Dad is
going to write to you later. Its a beautiful morning, frosty & sunny, & Dad,
Cis,
Fred & I have just been along to the
Spar at
Hardingstone. You won't know
the lane now, there's a fine new road
over to the Bedford
Rd on the left & an enormous concept of roundabouts, intersections, bridges, roads over to the
"Queen Eleanor."
We are well, dear, I may have to have an operation after Xmas
to close the gap that's causing the hernia of my
stomach & have a look at the ulcer at the same time, but don't worry its not a big op. & will save me having
chronic discomfort, but I have
to have more X Rays first after Xmas. Now dear, you ask me about money, you know I hate having to ask you for money
& we paddle along very well
really. Judy & Allan are coming home Xmas dinner & they are
buying a turkey. I have a cake
made
& have bought some Xmas goodies out
of my sewing money. Only if you have it will I suggest that I want some new shoes, if you like to pay these for a Xmas
present & at the end of
January when gas & electric bills are heavy, gas is usually about £18 & electric about £25. If you
could help here it would be
appreciated, but only if you have the money to spare John. I don't want to touch my investments if I can help it. I'd
like to leave you & Judy
£1000 each if possible (though not yet I hope)!! hope to do a bit of decorating in the spring, but time for
that. I have a pullover nearly
finished, but feel a bit wary of sending it, what do you think? It would take 6-7 weeks by surface mail. Anyway my
love, take care, keep well &
warm, there's always home!! & help here if you ever need it. You sound very happy & fit, thank God. Loving
you always,
Mum & Dad
